As
a newly formed municipality in south Fulton County, Georgia, the city of
Chattahoochee Hills was on a shoestring budget. It had "repurposed" a
retired elementary school building into a city hall facility and had managed
some modest interior remodeling, but it didn't have the funds to remodel the
building's aging landscape.
The Chattahoochee Hill County Conservancy, a local nonprofit organization, stepped in to help. It consulted with local garden centers and Arboriculture Services Inc. (ASI) to create a landscape plan that featured native shrubs and trees that volunteers could plant and maintain.
In the fall of 2009, the Conservancy hosted a work day with assistance provided by ASI. Our certified consulting arborist, Hugh Tyer, trained volunteers by demonstrating the proper method of planting trees and shrubs. He then supervised their work until they were confident they could do the job right.
As a result of the efforts of the Conservancy, the many volunteers who participated, and the training provided by ASI, the city of Chattahoochee Hills has beautiful new landscaping in front of its city hall, which should provide decades of enjoyment.
