Case Study: Corrective action saves tree

treesave1Even when a tree is properly planted, changes to its surrounding landscape can have a negative impact on its health.

This client called Arboriculture Services Inc.(ASI) after noticing a problem with an existing tree in its subdivision.

Our certified consulting arborist, Hugh Tyer, evaluated the tree and determined that too much dirt covered the tree as a result of recent landscape grading. Hugh recommended a plan to remove 12 inches of soil from a 30 foot circumference around the tree.

As a result of the corrective action recommended by ASI, the client's tree was saved and the knowledgeable client was better equipped to manage future grading projects.

Twelve inches of soil was removed from
a 30 inch circumference around the tree.
Trenches were laid out in a radial
pattern from the tree out to its roots.
Trenches were dug to a depth of 12
inches to give the roots breathing room.
A soil treatment was added. Top soil was added to cover the trenches. A light layer of mulch finished the job.
